Professional Bio

Matt Kirchner is on a mission to secure the American Dream for the next generation of STEM and Workforce talent.

For 23 years, Matt led Midwest manufacturing companies and witnessed lives fundamentally changed for the better by the career opportunities in the skilled workforce. Today, Matt leads ATS/LAB Midwest, the premier distributor of curriculum, eLearning and training systems for education and industry. In this role, he leads a team of individuals serving businesses and education to help them train up the next generation of students and learners for high-wage, high-demand careers.

Matt serves on the Board of Trustees for the American Technical Education Association. He also hosts the TechEd Podcast, featuring weekly conversations with the world’s leading innovators in education, industry, and public policy to align the efforts of technical education and the needs of the workforce, especially around advanced technology and future skillsets. For nearly 20 years, Matt has written leadership columns for Gardner Media appearing in Products Finishing and Production Machining magazines. He is also the author of “Teaching the Industrial Internet of Things: Preparing Students and Learners for Industry 4.0.”

As a 2024 learning partner, Matt will guide AFIT members and their teams in exploring the rapidly changing world of manufacturing, its implications for the future of our workforce, and strategies to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in this emerging new world.
