AFIT welcomes Dr. Ken Flowers, President of Lake Michigan College
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ken Flowers, President of Lake Michigan College (LMC) in Benton Harbor, Michigan to our collaborative community of innovators.
Ken brings more than 28 years of experience in higher education, academic administration, and workforce-aligned education.
What makes his story especially remarkable is that he began his career as a machinist. After 14 years in the mold-making industry, he transitioned to education and rose through the ranks at Lake Michigan College, serving in several roles, most recently as Executive Vice President.
He is also a proud LMC alumnus, holding an associate degree and Journeyman Moldmaker certificate from the very institution he now leads.
In recognition of his leadership, Ken was selected as a 2025–26 Aspen Rising Presidents Fellow: one of only 40 leaders chosen nationwide. He has also been named Postsecondary Professional of the Year by both the Michigan Association of Career and Technical Education and the Association for Career and Technical Education Region I.
Lake Michigan College originally joined AFIT in 2019, under the leadership of Dr. Trevor Kubatzke. We are thrilled that their engagement will continue under Ken.
Pamela McVay, Director of the President’s Office and Culture & Talent Services, will continue to serve as LMC’s AFIT Rep.
