AFIT welcomes Dr. Jamal Scott, President of Highland Community College

We are excited to welcome Dr. Jamal Scott, President of Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois to our collaborative community of innovators. 

Jamal brings more than 25 years of higher education leadership to the presidency, with a track record of building collaborative cultures and driving student success.  

Before stepping into the presidency at Highland, he served as Vice President of Undergraduate Education and Dean of the Undergraduate College at National Louis University, and prior to that led strategy and community development work at AFIT member institution Waubonsee Community College, where he served as the College’s AFIT Rep.  

An Aspen Presidential Fellow and a Higher Learning Commission Peer Reviewer since 2014, Jamal is deeply invested in strengthening the broader ecosystem of higher education—exactly the kind of perspective AFIT is built around. 

Highland College joined AFIT in 2021 under the leadership of Dr. Chris Kuberski. We are excited that their engagement with AFIT will continue under Jamal. And we look forward to the energy and insights he'll bring to the AFIT community.
